Solving the Parking Problem: Once, and For All

Wednesday, Sept 20, 7:15-8:30 pm
Somerville Public Library, Central Branch
79 Highland Ave (map)

The constant quest for parking in Somerville can be frustrating. At times it seems like half the drivers on the road are just cruising for a space. What if there was a way to guarantee parking for everyone who needs it? What if parking could be a benefit to the neighborhood, instead of a burden?

Mark Chase will present innovative, market-based approaches to solving the parking dilemma that benefit everyone while reducing congestion. Your feedback and ideas will be an important part of the discussion.

Mark Chase's Background
Mark has a decade of experience working on transportation planning and policy issues in the Northeast Corridor. Mark was part of the founding management team of Zipcar where he developed partnerships with universities, property managers and governments to spread car sharing across the cities of Boston and New York City. Prior to his work at Zipcar, Mark worked as a consultant to municipalities and companies on parking, transit, and pedestrian issues. Mark directed the Alliance for Transportation Choice (ATC), a non-profit transportation advocacy group in Portland, Maine. At ATC he was instrumental at building political support for bicycle lanes that resulted in the several miles of bike lanes in the greater Portland area. As Director of Boston's
Seaport District Transportation Management Association (TMA), Mark worked with businesses and developers to reduce the number of single occupant vehicles in Boston's Seaport District. He has a B.S. from the University of Southern Maine and an M.A. in Urban and Environmental Policy from Tufts University.
