PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS OF SOMERVILLE ENDORSE CANDIDATES IN 2013 ALDERMAN AT-LARGE ELECTION

Two candidates endorsed. Long-time incumbent Alderman Bill White endorsed for reelection. Challenger Sean Fitzgerald also endorsed.

Somerville, MA. Members of the Progressive Democrats of Somerville (PDS) have endorsed two candidates in the upcoming Alderman At-Large election this fall.

PDS members voted to endorse Alderman Bill White, a long-time member of the Board of Alderman, for his continued work to ensure Somerville has smart development that means good jobs for residents. Bill has also worked to make the city more open and accountable to its citizens through informational alerts and public hearings.

Sean Fitzgerald, who narrowly came in fifth in the 2011 At-Large election, received the strong endorsement of PDS members. Sean, former staff for Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay, was endorsed based on his commitments to greater affordable housing options and opportunities for young people in Somerville.

Voters will choose four At-Large Alderman candidates in the general election on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. PDS invited all At-Large Alderman candidates to respond to our endorsement questionnaire, which included questions regarding commercial and residential development, climate change, jobs, affordability, and government transparency and accountability, among other topics. Candidates’ responses are available in their entirety on the PDS website (http://www.pdsomerville.org/node/248). Candidates that submitted questionnaires were invited to attend a PDS candidate endorsement forum on Monday, October 7, attended by more than 40 people.
